WhatsApp Says "This Number Is Not Allowed": Causes and Fixes

You enter a number in WhatsApp and see one of these messages: "This phone number is not allowed", "This number is banned from using WhatsApp", or the code simply never arrives. Here is what each means and what you can do about it.
Why WhatsApp rejects numbers
1. The number range is flagged
WhatsApp keeps lists of number ranges it associates with abuse, often VoIP ranges or ranges used heavily for sign ups. Any number in those ranges can be refused, no matter who is using it. This is the most common cause with virtual numbers.
2. The number was previously banned
Mobile numbers are recycled. If a previous owner was banned for spam, WhatsApp may still block the number.
3. Too many attempts
Requesting codes repeatedly triggers a waiting period. You will see a countdown before you can try again.
4. A typing or country mismatch
Selecting the wrong country, or including the country code twice, makes WhatsApp treat it as a different number.
How to fix it
- Check the format. Select the right country in WhatsApp, then enter the number without the leading country code.

- Wait out the timer. If you see a countdown, do not keep retrying. Each attempt can extend it.
Account banned after registering?
If the account worked and was later banned, that is about activity on the account, not the number. New accounts that message many strangers, join lots of groups at once, or get reported are banned fastest. You can appeal from the ban screen in the app. For the future, keep new accounts' activity natural for the first few days.
