How to Install an eSIM on Android

By the TonicsTools team · · 5 min read

eSIM setup on Android varies a little by brand, but the steps are similar. Install at home on Wi-Fi before you travel and turn the line on when you arrive.

Check your phone first

Many Android phones sold in Nigeria, including most Tecno, Infinix and itel models, do not support eSIM. Samsung Galaxy S20 and newer, Galaxy Z Fold and Flip, and Google Pixel 3 and newer generally do. See our eSIM compatibility guide for how to check.

Samsung Galaxy

  1. Open Settings, then Connections, then SIM manager.
  2. Tap Add eSIM, then Scan QR code from service provider.
  3. Scan the QR code from your TonicsTools dashboard or email.
  4. Confirm to add the plan, then name it "Travel".
  5. In SIM manager, set Mobile data to the Travel eSIM and keep calls and SMS on your Nigerian SIM.

Google Pixel

  1. Open Settings, then Network and internet, then SIMs.
  2. Tap Add SIM or Download a SIM instead.
  3. Scan the QR code and follow the prompts.

Other Android phones

Look for SIM manager, SIM cards or Mobile network in Settings, then an option to add an eSIM or download a SIM. If you cannot scan, use the manual activation code shown on your dashboard.

After you land

  • Enable the eSIM line and turn on Roaming for it.
  • Set mobile data to the eSIM.
  • Turn off roaming on your Nigerian SIM.

Common errors

  • "This code is no longer valid": the QR has already been used. Contact support rather than buying again.
  • The Add eSIM option is missing: the phone or its regional version does not support eSIM, or it is carrier locked.

Find a plan for your trip on the eSIM page.
