How to Verify WhatsApp with a Virtual Number (Step by Step)
By the TonicsTools team · · 6 min read
WhatsApp links every account to a phone number and confirms it with a 6-digit SMS code. If you want a second WhatsApp line, a business account that is separate from your personal SIM, or a foreign number for clients abroad, a virtual number is the quickest route. This guide walks through the whole process and, just as important, how to keep the account once the number expires.
What you need
- A TonicsTools account with some wallet balance (you can fund in Naira by card, transfer or USSD).
- The WhatsApp or WhatsApp Business app installed. To run two accounts on one phone, use WhatsApp for one and WhatsApp Business for the other, or your phone's dual app feature.
- About five minutes.
Step 1: Pick a country and buy the number
On your dashboard open SMS Verification, choose WhatsApp as the service, then pick a country. The WhatsApp verification page shows live starting prices per country so you can compare before you sign in. Countries with plenty of stock usually deliver codes fastest.
Step 2: Enter the number in WhatsApp
Open WhatsApp, agree to the terms, and select the same country from the list. Type the number exactly as shown on your dashboard, without the leading plus or the country code (WhatsApp adds those). Tap Next and confirm.
Step 3: Choose SMS, not a call
WhatsApp may offer to verify by voice call or by a code on another device. Choose SMS. Activation numbers only receive text messages.
Step 4: Copy the code from your dashboard
The code normally appears on your dashboard within seconds. Type it into WhatsApp and the account is registered. If nothing arrives within a few minutes, cancel the order and your wallet is refunded in full.
Step 5: Protect the account immediately
This step is the one most people skip. A rented activation number is released after about 20 minutes, so you will not be able to receive another code on it. Do these now:
- Go to Settings, Account, Two-step verification and create a 6-digit PIN.
- Add an email address when WhatsApp asks for one. It lets you reset the PIN.
- Turn on chat backup (Google Drive or iCloud) so you can restore chats on a new phone.
Our guide on keeping accounts after a number expires covers this in more detail for other apps too.
If WhatsApp rejects the number
Occasionally WhatsApp says the number is not allowed or is banned. That is a decision WhatsApp makes about the number range, not your device. Cancel for a refund and try another country. We explain the causes in WhatsApp "number not allowed": causes and fixes.
Use it responsibly
Virtual numbers are for privacy and legitimate business use. Sending bulk spam or impersonating others breaks WhatsApp's rules and our acceptable use policy, and gets accounts banned quickly.
