Tips for using an eSIM in Germany
- German contracts usually need an address registration, so a travel eSIM bridges the gap after arrival.
- Coverage on trains between cities can drop in places, which is normal across networks.
How to set it up
- Check your phone supports eSIM (how to check).
- Buy a Germany plan and pay from your Naira wallet.
- Scan the QR code on Wi-Fi before you travel (iPhone or Android steps).
- When you land, switch the eSIM on and enable data roaming for it.
Germany eSIM FAQ
Is a travel eSIM good for students moving to Germany?
Yes, for the first weeks. Once you are registered at your address you can sign up for a cheaper local plan.
Is my phone eSIM compatible?
Most phones from 2019 onward support eSIM, including iPhone XS and newer, Google Pixel 3 and newer, and Samsung Galaxy S20 and newer. Your phone must also be carrier unlocked. On iPhone, check Settings, General, About for a "Digital SIM" or "Available SIM" entry.
When should I install the eSIM?
Install it at home on Wi-Fi a day or two before your trip, but keep it switched off. Turn it on and enable data roaming for the eSIM line after you land.
Will I lose my Nigerian number?
No. The eSIM is added as a second line. Your Nigerian SIM stays in the phone for calls, SMS and bank OTPs while the eSIM handles data.
How do I pay?
Fund your TonicsTools wallet in Naira by card, bank transfer or USSD, or with crypto, then buy the plan. The QR code is delivered to your dashboard and email.
