Tips for using an eSIM in United Arab Emirates

  • WhatsApp voice and video calls are restricted in the UAE on many networks. Messages work normally.
  • If you are visiting Oman or Saudi Arabia on the same trip, look at a Middle East regional plan.

Can I make WhatsApp calls with a UAE eSIM?

WhatsApp text messaging works, but voice and video calling is often blocked by UAE regulations. Approved apps such as Botim are commonly used for calls.

Is my phone eSIM compatible?

Most phones from 2019 onward support eSIM, including iPhone XS and newer, Google Pixel 3 and newer, and Samsung Galaxy S20 and newer. Your phone must also be carrier unlocked. On iPhone, check Settings, General, About for a "Digital SIM" or "Available SIM" entry.

When should I install the eSIM?

Install it at home on Wi-Fi a day or two before your trip, but keep it switched off. Turn it on and enable data roaming for the eSIM line after you land.

Will I lose my Nigerian number?

No. The eSIM is added as a second line. Your Nigerian SIM stays in the phone for calls, SMS and bank OTPs while the eSIM handles data.

How do I pay?
