Tips for using an eSIM in Turkey
- Foreign phones using a local Turkish SIM for long periods may need IMEI registration. A travel eSIM avoids this for short stays.
- On a long layover at IST, a small plan is enough for WhatsApp and maps.

Do I need to register my phone in Turkey?
IMEI registration applies to local Turkish SIM cards used for extended periods. Short trips with a travel eSIM do not require it.
Is my phone eSIM compatible?
Most phones from 2019 onward support eSIM, including iPhone XS and newer, Google Pixel 3 and newer, and Samsung Galaxy S20 and newer. Your phone must also be carrier unlocked. On iPhone, check Settings, General, About for a "Digital SIM" or "Available SIM" entry.
When should I install the eSIM?
Install it at home on Wi-Fi a day or two before your trip, but keep it switched off. Turn it on and enable data roaming for the eSIM line after you land.
Will I lose my Nigerian number?
No. The eSIM is added as a second line. Your Nigerian SIM stays in the phone for calls, SMS and bank OTPs while the eSIM handles data.
